Loni Jones – Twin Mom Interview
Meet Super MoM (Mother of Multiples) Loni Jones – mom of identical twin boys Lao and Leno. Loni and her little island boys are Jamaican and she is the first twin mom I started following on Instagram when Twin Mom Tales was just an idea I was toying with about a year ago.
By profession, Loni is a sought after makeup artist with years of experience working with brides, editorial projects, entertainers and personalities from around the world.
In her quest for a balanced and full life she makes time for being fit, and enjoying her passions whether it be art, mixing music as a DJ, or advocating for a better world.
It’s not hard to see that Loni dotes on her sweet, adorable boys (even I do when they pop up on my newsfeed – your boys should meet my girls, Loni!).
So, I’ll just let her fill us in on life as a twin mom:
I love the names you chose for your boys, they complement and flow together. What was the inspiration/meaning behind their names?
Lao’s name means old, experienced and wise. It came from Lao Tzu, the ancient poet and Chinese philosopher.
Leno’s name is of German origin and means ‘like a lion’.
Lao is my first! We just decided whoever comes first would be called Lao. Luckily it worked, lol – Lao’s demeanor does seem old and wise most times and Leno can be fiery and strong like a lion!
Describe your twins’ personality “Twitter-style” (in 140 characters or less)
One used to be mellow and the other loud… Now they’ve switched up!
What are some tips/tricks you would share with a new (or pregnant) mom of twins?
FROM BIRTH ESTABLISH A SCHEDULE… AND STICK TO IT!
Have them do everything at the same time or within the same 30-40 mins. A schedule is what kept me sane.
Budget to buy 2 of most things, mostly toys!
Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
No friends over during nap time! This is important too. When they come over and wake babies and expect you to entertain them it’s you who’ll be left to clean up and tend to babies once they’re gone. Use nap time to tend to yourself!
How do you handle the pressure to be Super MoM?
I take time for myself, go to the beach, get my nails done from time to time and I go to the gym 4 days a week. Honestly there isn’t much pressure but having a nanny allows me to have time to take care of me.
How has your life changed since becoming a mom of twins?
Becoming a twin mom has definitely changed me. I’ve learnt to be extremely patient. I feel super human since I’ve successfully carried them, given birth to them and now raising them to be great men.
Ultimately, I’ve been transformed to a better version of myself!
Which myth about twins (or raising twins) would you like to challenge?
That it gets easier as they get bigger….Umm no, lol.
With my boys hitting 2yrs in a couple months I’ve found myself reaching for lozenges to give my throat relief from screaming:
“Take that out of your mouth!”
“Don’t climb on the table!”
“Close the fridge!”
“Stop licking the tv”
“My titties aren’t your toys!” (I dunno what the fascination is with boobs)
It’s a little harder now! I’m running behind them like a mad woman. I wouldn’t change it for anything though!
Tell us about the good parts too! Go on, gush about your twins or share something funny they’ve done recently:
When they look at each other and burst into non-stop laughter… Those moments are the best!
