Twin Babies Development Milestones from 3 to 6 months
As moms we have an instinctive need to check on our babies’ development from the time they are in the womb and then it continues for months, even years after they are born.
For most, we record the monthly milestones up to one year old and compare their development to other babies. When you have twins it is difficult to avoid doing comparisons because you have 2 babies in front of you that are at the same age.
Comparison is the thief of joy – Theodore Roosevelt
To avoid unnecessary worries it is important to remember that your twins are unique individuals who happen to share a birth date.
In the same way health professionals will advise you that babies all develop at different rates, you should take this into consideration when comparing your twins’ development.

Let’s take a quick look at what should be happening at this stage of development (if they were premature, keep in mind their ‘adjusted age’ to compare):

While it may be hard keeping up with the demands of caring for twins and other responsibilities, it is important to check on where your babies are in terms of development and what you can do to help them reach those milestones.

My girls were preemies (born at 31 weeks) and so I have always been concerned about them hitting developmental milestones and constantly watching for signs of any delays or long term effects of their prematurity.
I stumbled across this YouTube channel when they were about 3.5 months old that was very helpful in demonstrating typical (normal) development vs Atypical (delayed) development.
It helped me to realise that I needed to ensure that they got lots of opportunities to practice new skills such as keeping their head up (via tummy time) and rolling over during this stage.
Warning – the following videos contain infant nudity (I suspect this is done so you can better observe the muscles being used during each activity as well as proper positioning without clothes or diapers obscuring)

While researching information to share on the blog, I often come across twin moms who journal their twins’ development online.
Here are a few who have documented this on their blogs or public social profiles:
